Pros:
Cons:
I love, love, love, LOVE this yogurt maker. I make my yogurt in the crock pot; usually a three quart (half gallon of milk) but occasionally a six quart (full gallon of milk). This strainer fits both sized batches.

I love that it is self contained and that, unlike my glass bowl, mesh strainer and coffee filter setup, I can stack stuff on top of it, move it around in the fridge one handed and generally treat it like any other storage container in my fridge. I love that it strains but doesn't allow the top layer of yogurt to dry out and shrink or (horrors!) develop a skin on the top.

I make a batch every two weeks and my life is definitely simplified by having the Greek yogurt maker in my kitchen.

It also comes with some great recipes to try, too.

If it ever breaks, may that tragedy never befall me, I will be back to purchase a replacement.

Cons:
I've been making Greek Yogurt twice a week for years. Before I had this strainer I used Butter Muslin. To use the muslin I would boil it, pour the yogurt in without making a mess, hang it up in the kitchen to drain unrefrigerated for three hours. After it drained you need to get the yogurt out without a mess, then it has to be washed then dried for the next time. With this strainer I make my yogurt , pour it in, put it in the frig over night, dump the yogurt in a container, and wash the strainer. It's so much easier to clean than the muslin.

Pros:
Cons:
I generally like all of the products that I've purchased through Cheesemaking.com, but unfortunately this is not one of them. This product is comprised of three pieces- a soft plastic lid, the mesh strainer, and a rigid plastic bowl. I used the plastic bowl for the ice bath because it fit in my sink better than the pot I use to heat my milk. Long story short, the heat from the milk followed by the cold from the ice bath caused the bowl to crack in half; I had only made 3 batches of yogurt.

If you purchase this item, I would suggest that you take care not to expose this plastic bowl to any sudden temperature changes, whether hot or cold.
