The milk is tested weekly by an independent lab and monthly by the state lab. Animals are all blood tested yearly for Brucellosis and tuberculosis. They milk purebred Nubian goats. Nubian milk is best known for its mild, sweet flavor. This is partly because of the high fat content of the milk which also makes it ideal for cheesemaking. No corn, soy, antibiotics or rBST. I have made many goat milk cheese's from their goats milk and all excellent. The milk is tested at the DHIA labs and tests clean. They have raw and pasturized. Due to Arizona law they do have a license to sell the milk for pet food only. They can not sell the milk but for human use but do have a Farm Share and lease out the dairy goats , so others can get the milk. Due to the rural location the milk is brought to different areas of the valley for the Farm Share members to pick up their products instead of driving to the farm to pick it up. Nice friendly people. Highly recomended!

| Today Lifeline Farm Inc. is a partnership between three of the early members, Ernie Harvey, Luci Breiger, and Steve Elliot. The farm has formed two distinct parts, Lifeline Dairy and Lifeline Produce. Steve and Luci, who manage the produce, grow vegetables, herbs and flowers as well as caring for around 20 sheep and selling their lambs. All of the produce from their 10 acres is marketed within Montana. Ernie Harvey manages a herd of about 400 Brown Swiss cows, bulls, calves and steers that make up Lifeline Dairy. Long revered by the Swiss as an excellent, dual-purpose breed, the Brown Swiss produce rich milk, which is used on the dairy to make cheese, as well as delicious beef, which is sold throughout Montana. The dairy also "recycles" many feeds by raising pigs which are then sold as pork cuts and in home style sausage.

They’re hand-milked twice daily. The milk is filtered and cooled rapidly. Available in quarts ($2.50 plus like jar exchange or $1 refundable deposit), 1/2 gallons ($3.75 plus exchange or $1.50 deposit) and gallons ($7 plus jar exchange or $2 deposit), depending on the customer’s preference. I also have a limited supply of food-grade plastic gallon jars. Tenmile is a small, very rural town located 17 miles SW of Roseburg.

test on every load that is
bottled, but we are semi-organic
and would not really need to as
antibiotics are only used in
emergencies to spare the life of
an animal(sometimes 1 time in 4
months). We go by California
standards as South Dakota does

Guernsey milk is well known for its excellent cheese making properties as well as the great taste! They milk the cows with machines but into buckets rather than through a pipeline, they believe it is gentler on the milk and helps retain a good cream-line in the milk. Some believe the pumps that are needed to transfer the milk from a pipeline into the milk tank can partially homogenize the milk not to mention, requiring much more chemical detergent to try and clean all the additional surfaces that a pipeline system requires.

They have their own dairy plant and offer very fresh low pasteurized milk in half gallon recyclable bags. Their price for whole milk this way is often less than most retailer's price for skim! The goats are managed using Permaculture principles, primarily grass- and browse-fed, with organic grain supplement for lactating or pregnant does. We use herbal deworming agents, supplemented only as needed with chemical wormers. Our goats love people, and get lots of attention -- we even sing to them as we milk! | Here in Japan, I order all of my milk online or pick it up at the supermarket. We have several choices of low-temperature pasteurized milk which is sold also at the local supermarket. We also have UHP milk and everything in between, but surprisingly UHP is harder to find than low temp pasteurized, as people here like creamier tasting milk and are less concerned about fat.
I have yet to find skim milk in the low-temp pasteurized variety, and I use calcium chloride to get a firm curd.
These are inexpensive while utililzing low temp pasteurization.
There are also specialized dairies that sell direct to customers, but their milk is quite expensive
