My wife and I ordered this kit during the middle of the holiday season and got it within about 2 days. We've used it to make a whole bunch of cheese--the fresh stuff has all been fantastic, and I'll know about the other cheese we've made in 3-5 months.

The instructions in the guidebook are a little sparse, but the guides on the website provide a ton of information and are super helpful.

A great investment

Rating:

Pros:
  • Cheap
  • Easy to Follow Instructions
Cons:
  • Just buy the dang Cheese Wax
  • Seriously
  • save yourself the time

I got this kit at a brewing supply store. I was nervous about pouring two gallons of milk in the pot, but it was easy to do and I think it's going to work real nice! I do wish there was an option or strong recommendation to buy the cheese wax - you don't need it to age the cheese, but you will almost certainly want to (unless you're into mold rinds). Still gets five stars because of how cool it was.

Almost everything you need

Pros:
  • You can make cheese
Cons:
  • Overpriced for what you get.

I wish the kit would have came with cheese salt, and maybe the coloring. Besides that you can make cheese just not all the types it says, without a press, and the above mentioned items...

Almost perfect

In general I liked this kit. The only thing I felt it lacked was a Follower for the Basket that was included, to support the Weights needed for pressed cheeses. While not needed for all the cheese recipes in that kit, pressing was required for many of the recipes. You could do like I ended up doing and creating something that sort of fit the basket (honestly that didn't work well at all), but I would of much rathered pay a few more $ to have one that was made for that basket. Remember this is a kit for BEGINNERS who most likely have not invested in a cheese press yet. I have since purchased a follower from this site.

I got this for Christmas and was so excited! I've wanted to make cheese for a while but it seemed super complicated. Following the directions I have now made a farmhouse cheddar that I smoked then waxed and is currently aging in my fridge. I can't wait to try more! I love cheese so I can see that cheese making will be a life long passion. Thanks for this kit and making it so easy!

Clean kitchen, un-homogenized milk grass fed, organic, cream at the top. Every thing went as advertised.

Cheddar was perfect, and will open the aged cheddar in late November for Thanksgiving.

Book titles "home Cheese making" by Ricki Carroll and the kit instructions, also written by Ricki Carroll for Monterey Jack, were different? (Brining vs no beining) - confusing at least. Followed the instructions 100% for the farmhouse cheddar and after seven days it is still not dry??? We will continue making the cheeses and hope some of them turn out and are edible???

After a scouring of the internet for a beginner cheesemaking kit, I found this kit to be the best for getting my show on the road. This site had all of the extras I needed to get started!

Everything you need...to get completely hooked.

Ironically, I do not like cheese. I brew beer at home. I also enjoy cooking and baking. So, I thought I'd give cheese making a try because I like making things and, fortunately, my wife and son do like eating cheese.

I got this kit and tried to make some mozzarella following all the instructions...big fail. Just a lumpy mess of curds.

This kit can't guarantee success, but what it can guarantee is that you will get the cheese making bug for sure.

Because my first effort failed, I felt compelled to try it two more times until I got it right. Then I decided, why not try cheddar cheese.

What the kit doesn't give you or explain well, is that you need a press to make this kind of cheese. So, again, my first effort was a bit of a debacle, but like the mozzarella experiment, it compelled me to learn all about making cheddar and buying vs building a cheese press, so I could make a better better second effort.

If you are at all the curious type, buy this kit. With a simple starter kit, you will get hooked on all there is to know about the wide world of cheese making..and believe me, there is a lot to explore...and it is really great fun!

This kit is awesome! I have Nubian goats and have made simple farmhouse cheese but wanted to expand my horizons. The directions in the kit were very easy to follow. I will be ordering more starters, wax and other ingredients to make more this year!
