it is slightly more mild than the bulgarian yogurt, but still with very interesting flavor. Y5 is a bit bland for us, but we enjoy both the bulgarian & Y3 cultures. this one's texture can't be beat. very nice.
Now that I have my own goat's milk, I make this yogurt about once a week. It has a nice tangy flavor just the way I like it! I prefer it over the "sweet" yogurt.
I love the fresh taste this yoghurt culture gives our goat milk! We drink some and I also drain some to get the consistency of Greek style yoghurt, and we use it in place of sour cream. One of our favourite places to use it is with Mexican food, especially our home made burritos. Yum!
So far, this has been my favorite yogurt culture (between this and Sweet). It yields a flavorful yogurt with a rich and creamy texture that is delicious with soft-set jams and jellies. Right now, my favorite additions are sourcherry jam and a bit of Hershey's chocolate syrup, but my failed strawberry jam is a close second (it didn't jel enough).

the yogurt always comes out deliciously creamy with just the right tartness

Caution: If you make yogurt with this culture, you will not buy yogurt in the store again. I have a constant batch in my fridge, ready for recipes that call for yogurt and for my husband to eat daily. He swears that it really changes the flora in his intestinal system and improves his digestion. He loves the taste and has replaced his expensive probiotic pills with the yogurt, saying it does a better job.
All five packets did their job!
Using whole milk with 1/4 cup of carnation milk powder, this yogurt, undrained, is just as thick as the Greek yogurt I USED TO buy. And is Much better tasting. As long as I can get these, I don't see myself ever buying yogurt again. For me, 7 hours of sitting in the yogotherm is just right.
I've tried all of the yogurt cultures. This the richest. Makes great yogurt cheese. 15 min. straining it becomes a decadent thick Greek style yogurt. Never fails to set. Found a packet in my culture container that was 6 months past due. Set perfectly.
Hands down, this is the best yogurt culture I've every used and I've been making yogurt since the 70s. It is beautifully smooth and thick and even kids who are used to commercial yogurt with lots of sugar in it are happy to eat it with just a bit of fruit mixed in.
This is my second choice of yogurt cultures (the first being the sweet). This one has a bit more yogurt tang to it, but is not sour. And it really is a bit creamier!
Took advantage of the bulk pricing last time I ordered. Make yogurt weekly and have had great success with basic formula, added milk powder and yogotherm. Keeps perfectly well in freezer.
This is my favorite. I have been making yogurt with this for years and it is reliable, making creamy, delicious, fresh yogurt every time. In fact, I am eating it (with fruit and granola) right now!
I alternate between this culture and the Sweet culture...just because. The end result is always tasty.
