The plans gave me some idea how to build a different one for myself. I do not like a press to be in 1 place only and be set for a specific height. If you do not know where to start with buidling your own press it is a good way to start.

This is my one and only press and it really works great. You do, however have to have some skills as well as tools to be able to manufacture it properly. Materials are also a little difficult to find in correct thicknesses but a little imagination can get it done.

A Great and inexpensive way to press cheese

Being new to cheesemaking, I did not want to invest a lot of money; so I purchased these plans for a home build cheese press. I modified the design slightly so that it does not actually mount to the wall, due to my backslash design, but instead to a piece of 2x6 wood so now it is a complete unit. I did however measure it so the whole thing fits snugly under the cabinets and just the weight overshoots the counter top. I used it with the kits plastic mold, and it worked well. I am ok with woodworking and such but if you are good, you can make a very nice looking cheese press that could look like art.

I bought these plans after making my first Farmhouse Cheddar. I wanted a simple and more sturdy solution to finding random things around the house to weigh and then stack on top of my cheese. The directions for this press were easy to follow and materials can be found at most hardware stores. Since I enjoy making my own things ( like cheese) this press is a perfect fit to my ever expanding cheese obsession.

I have some ability with tools but every good set of directions start with the tools needed and various items needed listed clearly to complete the project. I'm sure someone can figure out what size bolt or drill bit is needed, I need it spelled out. Very frustrating.

I bouhgt these plans 9 years ago and built a modified version as a free standing unit. I am still using it today.

It takes modest woodworkg skills to modify, but it would be useful to include some variations in the plans for those that do not want to mount it to the wall.

If you are a decent wood worker these are great. I live in a small apartment and don't have a lot of room for the bigger presses. With it mounted on the wall I can fold it out of the way when not in use.

Great! Once I slowed down...

Really good directions for a basic cheese press. Once I slowed down I was able to figure out the diagrams. A great solution over buying a big press. A mid-level experience person could easily make this.

It works!

With a minimal amount of effort my husband was able to build the press. He probably would have given it 5 stars if we had all the materials here in the workshop.

The blueprints of the press are clear and easy to follow. The press is an off-the-wall press design and I transformed it into a self-standing Dutch press. They do the same function but I did not have an available wall to set the press on. Excellent product as all other products from New England Cheese Making Supply.

These directions were very easy to follow. I was even able to modify the plans so that my press is free standing so that I can share it with friends.
