Yup! They need to be labeled. Lacking an analytic lab, I used the various unlabeled spoons to fill a standard (read randomly purchased and blindly trusted) teaspoon measure that I've had on hand for decades. The following estimates are probably as accurate as any kitchen measures. From smallest to largest spoons:
'smidgen' 1/20 tsp;
'pinch' 1/12 tsp;
'dash' 1/7 tsp;
'tad' 1/4 tsp.
I used an inexpensive vibrating engraver (~$18 from the home improvement store) that was already on hand to mark each of the spoons. At least now we all finally know what a smidgen is.
These are very nice, heavy duty stainless steel measuring spoons. I think they''re cute with the titles of "pinch", "dash", etc, I just wish that they also had the actual measurement on them. I actually bought them for my daughters to make itty bitty recipes that fit in teeny tiny pans. However, now I feel like I need to put labels on each spoon so that the true measurement is on them.
Cute idea, though!
